Re-Enable Google+ Mobile Instant Video Uploads

google-plus-620x302

**UPDATE**

Google has posted an update in a Google Groups discussion topic about this.

Video support for Instant Upload isn’t available in the latest version (2.1.1) of the app.  However, this was only temporarily removed and it should be back soon. We’ll be sure to communicate these types of changes more clearly next time.

So it looks as if the feature will return.  That would be good news!

**END UPDATE**

I was quite cross when I discovered that Google’s engineers had decided to remove the instant video upload feature from the Google+ mobile app but I was grateful when I discovered you could install the old version of Google+ and get the feature back.

A friendly forum member pointed me to an earlier version (1.0) and I installed it.  And now I have my instant video uploads back.  I may have lost some features but since the only one I cared about was instant upload it was a win for me!

Another quick google of com.google.android.apps.plus-1.apk has given me a few places you can download from.

As always download these APKs at your own risk.  I do not own them, maintain them, write them or anything.  I just installed them.

Good luck

Google+ Mobile Instant Upload Videos no longer works

google-plus-620x302

**UPDATE**

I have figured out how to get the video uploads to work again.  Check here for the answer.

**UPDATE**

For those that know me, you know I am a big time Google fanboy.  I’m on my third android phone.  I suffered through 1.5 and waited for 2.0 and now I’m using my Samsung Galaxy S waiting patiently for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to launch in January. Along with my phone fetish I also enjoy all things google.  I use Chrome, Gmail, Youtube…. Google, and on the day I got my invite Google+. When I discovered the mobile app I was thrilled.  The mobile positing didn’t much appeal to me but the instant upload features did.

I’ve used this on countless occasions for both my photos and videos.  For those of you that haven’t yet used it there’s certainly something to be said for the convenience of having your photos uploaded and ready for sharing when you get home.  (I have mine set to private until I choose to share them) Yesterday I was videotaping the dog and cat playing (yes I am in fact that lame) and I was thrilled to know that in a few minutes the video would be in my google+ upload queue waiting for me to share with my family (who are equally as lame as they watch cat videos too… hello… piano cat?)

The video cannot be shown at the moment. Please try again later.

This morning I check… no video.  I check my phone, restart google+ and hmm… no upload taking place.  Check the settings… hmmm… something seems missing.  The word video was gone from all of the settings.

I set about googling this problem…. and nothing.  No mention of it.

Finally, after about fifteen minutes I find this:

Hi all, I wanted to clarify something that I think has become a little unclear regarding instant upload and the new app. I certainly take some blame for not being more explicit:

1. Instant upload of photos from SD card: our team is aware of a bug in the new app that is preventing this from being possible. We are committed to ensuring that instant upload does in fact work for photos from the SD card and are working on a fix for this issue as soon as possible.
2. Instant upload of videos (from SD card AND other storage): this functionality is not supported in the newest version of the app. But, we’ve heard many users asking for it to come back, so our team is talking about providing it again as soon as possible.
So, stay tuned for a fix to the photos-from-SD problem. And, let me know if there are other issues you’re confronting with instant upload!
Happy Friday,
Toby

So – Google has removed this feature without telling anyone (including its own marketing department apparently) This fellow Toby is asking people who want the feature back to send feedback to Google.  You can send feedback by clicking on the feedback button in Google Plus (or on your mobile app) as well I would recommend you head over to the Google Group and express your dissatisfaction. Come on gang – lets get our feature back!!!
